Taking Off

Tomorrow Sweet Pea and I will be taking off for the Island to spend time with Oma and Opa for a week. It will be interesting to see how my dedication to losing this excess weight goes since I will not have access to the gym. So far this year (the whole three weeks of it) I've been averaging going to the gym three times a week. Since I won't be going I plan on going to the pool and going for runs well Oma and Opa watch Sweet Pea.

Ashamed

I can't believe that I haven't sat down to write anything here since the middle of September! Largely because I am ashamed to admit that for the most part things have not been going well. Since starting this journey I have grown to a whopping 217.25 lbs! That's over 21 pounds gained since I last did a Weekly Weigh In! Not good, not good at all. However, I am human and can and will change this around.

For Christmas my Husband got me a three month membership to the local gym, which I made the goal to go to three times a week. If I can do that we're going to sign me up on a reoccurring plan. I know that it is only two weeks into 2011, but so far so good. Now I just need to keep it up.

I have also started recording everything that I eat and how my workouts go in my day-planner. At the end of the month I will go through it and see if I can find any trends that need changing.

Weekly Weigh In - Week Three

Last Week: 193.4 lb
This Week: 195.8 lb
Difference: +2.4 lb

It's weekly weigh in time again, 2 days late because I'm lazy and was mildly nervous to step on the scale. I haven't been working out and doing my exercises like I should. My motivation is waning. I can't explain why, but it is. Hopefully I'll be able to kick my butt into gear this week.

I am feeling pretty proud of myself for yesterday. It was starting to rain and even though I felt pretty tired I still went out and did a run. The plan for today is to go for a bike ride and hopefully tomorrow or Sunday I can sneak in a swim well my husband watches the baby. We'll see how that goes.

Weekly Weigh In - Week Two

Last Week: 185.8lbs
This Week: 193.4lbs
Difference: +7.6lbs

Not a good week for me. I ate richer food than I should of (but it was worth it) and did not go out and exercise like I should of. My weight gain is a result of bad decisions that I made. As a result I am trying hard not to beat myself up too much over it. Instead I’m doing something much more productive, moving more this week. Yesterday I was able to get my run in and today I went for a swim. The swim wasn’t for as long as I’d like but that was due to me worrying about baby. Tomorrow the plan is to go for another run and hopefully on the weekend I can sneak in a bike ride. We'll see how it goes and I'll have something better to report.

Weekly Weigh In - Week One

Last Week: N/A
This Week: 185.8 lbs

Part of the reason why I’m training for a triathlon is to help me get into shape and lose of weight. As such I will be reporting in weekly with an update.

At 185 lbs I am back at my pre-pregnancy weight. In my mind this is a good starting point.

Goals and Action Plans

One needs to have goals in order to stay motivated. These goals can be anything from a long-term goal, such as running a marathon, to a short-term goal, like being able to run 5 minutes with out stopping. These goals give us something to strive for. A reason to keep moving forward. By having both a long-term and a short-term goal one insures that they can stay motivated. Long-term goals take a long time to reach so it is easy to become discouraged, especially if we doesn’t see results right away. This is why we set short-term goals for ourselves.

My personal Long-Term Goal is to be able to run a Triathlon by the time I am 40. For someone who’s method of exercise is what ever exercise happens to her, such as walking to the store for food, this is a lofty goal. So I’ve set a couple of Short-Term and Medium-Term Goals. In the Short-Term I want to be able to run for an hour without having to stop or get sore. My Medium-Term Goal is to run in the local 10K Marathon next May without stopping or walking.

In order to reach these goals I needed an action plan that would be do able, but still changeling. Action plans help in keeping motivated as well. Like the name implies they are the actions we take to reaching our goals.

Step One in my plan is doing the Couch to 5K program. It’s slow going but I am seeing improvement. Both my short-term and medium-term goals help me reach my end goal of the Triathlon. As I near the end of the C25K I intend on working some Swimming into my training.

What about you? Do you have any long-term and short-term goals you’re working on? What is your action plan for achieving these goals?

It's Not Always Easy

It's not always easy trying to get out with a newborn in tow. In fact most days this week I've either not made it out for my morning run or ended up cutting it short due to a fussy baby. That being said, everyday this week with the exception of Friday I was able to make it out of the house for at least a walk.

Well I am proud of the fact that I was able to get the walk in, I feel disappointed at the lack of running. There is a part of me that feels I should of put more effort into getting the run. I acknowledge that I have a four week old baby and right now she really is dictating my schedule. Still, I feel that if I want to be serious about getting fit and reaching my goal of running a triathlon I need to put more effort in.
